KAREN’S BABY SHOWER

20 Sep

My good friend Karen is pregnant! Yeah!! Well, she’s been pregnant for almost 8 months now and her baby shower was organised by Lisa and Caren. These two ladies are quite crafty (in only one sense of the word – the artistic one!) and that baby shower was no easy-peasy! No toilet paper games, no guessing of the due date game, no writing of the best/worst advice ever given to you… no, no, we had to SOW. Now I have some creativity in me, maybe a tiny string of artistic seed but sowing ? No! Not for me. It actually stresses me out!! The small needle, the tiny thread, the invisible hole… my super fine motor skills are definitely not developped. I had fun nonetheless!

The idea of the sowing is a beautiful one. We all had to sow a small heart onto a piece of special prepared fabric (don’t ask me the technical term) with a blanket stitch. When it comes to ‘stitches’, the spelling of the word is as far as my knowledge goes. WHen all is finished, with all the blanket-stitched hearts, Lisa and Caren will sow it all together and it will become a patchwork throw.

Dear Lisa, explaining to all the ladies what to do.

More listening... We do look like it's fun though!!

Now for the hard core stuff…

We first had to choose the fabric we wanted to sow and then cut it in a heart shape. So far, so good!

Then thread your needle, or needle your thread and off to work, with a smile!

Some of the excellent work being done. Those are the hands of Julia. She did the chain-stitch, instead of a blanket stitch and it's looking very neat!

THat is the lady of the day, Karen. You can see she knows what she's doing and she's enjoying it!

And for the soft core… A baby shower would be a poor baby shower if there wasn’t any food, or any gifts. Since it is her third baby, Lisa and Caren came up with a nice idea. Instead of giving some more baby clothes that might not be needed, we had to buy a baby book. Karen loves to read and no doubt, she will read to her little one often.

And a pic of my friend and I! We all can’t wait to see her new baby. Date of expected arrival is end of October/beginning of November….

Brilliant now I get to experience a bit of it too. You all know how visually dominated we men are. Thanks Ingrid.
