New year’s eve fever

1 Jan

Today is the first day of the new year, and we feel just the same as yesterday, only more tired!

Most of the people celebrated in the same way as anyone else, with slight variations on food, number of guests, the lateness of the evening and a choice between kissing lips, cheeks or a simple hug at midnight…

We chose to celebrate with a small number of guests, a fair amount of food, some music and some dancing… all that within my house! Ouma and I baked some lasagne – we decided against a braai to avoid the one person, usually my husband, having to stand by the smoke for half of the evening – my mum did her now-famous oreillettes (traditional french pastries), Renette made her so delicious profiterolles and her I’m-sorry-it-flopped cheese cake, Caren brought her homemade focaccia, Sally and Lisa took care of the greens and the drinks and voila!!!

First things first, kids had their late swim sessions, just long enough to have them tired enough to slop down in front of dvds until the merchant of sand came to fetch at least some of them.

Kaira is supposed to be on the pic too but she was a bit shy to mingle in, after all it was an all boy corner were it not for Lea. Lea was quite sweet, a real nurturing instinct, in trying to get Kaira to come and sit with them – which she did eventually, and even ended up falling asleep right there.

Then the party for adults could start. Slowly at first, we had to get our tummies full and break the ice, you know.

From politically correct,

… to wild(er) behaviour under no influence, for the record!

My mum and Claude. They do line dancing together and they’re quite good 😉

My lou -a good dancer too – and my mum,

A less than usual couple…

Yes, they are dancing, not wrestling 😉

That’s us 🙂 A bit rusted, but I love dancing with Phil!

We also did our own line dancing, led by our own Irish/modern dancing teacher Lisa,

…that ended up in just not-so-linish dancing!! Pregnant or not, Sally has the moves – I really mean it, the girl can dance, and Travis is unbeatable!

Difficult to keep it serious,

These faces, on the other hand, are gorgeous and full of joy!

One o’clock, end of the party!! Kids are waking up in only 6 hours, 7 if we’re lucky…

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!!

MAY IT BE FILLED AND CHARACTERIZED WITH THE LOVE OF JESUS IN YOUR LIFE!!!
