Ahoy! Pirate pillage…

10 Nov

It’s done!!! I lived Pirate, I ate Pirate, I dreamt Pirate and I survived the invasion of Pirates!!! Killian’s 5th birthday pirate is d-o-n-e!!! Did I mention that the theme was Pirates????

I think it must have been my favourite theme of all – so far. It’s such a rich theme that ideas just flow! Too many ideas in fact. So much so that, even though the weather was unpromising, and even in spite of my attempt of postponing the party by another week, I am so relieved and happy that I didn’t wait for another week. My brain just didn’t seem to want to shut down when it came to other ideas, and new games, and more deco, and extra painted accessories…. But no, the date was the 7th of November and the party happened on the 7th of November!!!

Now for the detailed fun. Andie and I got hold of our paint brushes, weeks in advance to make signs (Keep out!!! Captain Killian’s territory!!!), pirate flags with crossed bones, skulls and daggers and party bags made out of black fabric with white painted names. Thank you my Andie Pandy!!!

The main game of the party was a treasure hunt. I battled to find appropriate clues that would be easy enough for a 5 year old boy to understand but not so easy that a 10 year old boy would be bored to death: the age range of the party was between 3 (Matt’s age) and 10 (James’ age). So clues read like this:

” Like any pirates should know,

There is a clue where tomatoes grow’

Or

“In the deep forest, where spiders don’t even rest

It’s hidden deep, it’s hidden low,

Now you’d better find it, if you want to eat sweets”

There were 7 clues before leading to the treasure box, where all the party packs were hidden. It was great fun! Even big Sam played all the games!! I’m so glad he had good fun. I don’t mind going through a lot of effort for a party if the end result is, for the kids, to really have fun!! So, mission accomplished!

The cake was wonderfully done by my sweet cake-baker Nicole! She is my party cake saver and baked the most beautiful pirate ship – to Killian’s delight!

love the party depiction! Especially the last photo – you look like a pretty authentic pirate family, esp Phillip’s “argghhh” face! 😉
