Sports day and big walk

17 Mar

I know I should write about the kids’ big walk and sports day but I have no pictures to support the whole event, so it falls a bit flat…

Nonetheless, on Friday was Lea’s first Sports day at Sweet Valley. My little girl, with her long legs and floppy arms was going to take part in a race! We never did a race, how would she know? Well, it seems that during all those lessons of ‘gym’ and ‘gym-minis’, they did practice! because when t was the turn for the Grade 1 – 2 of Mrs van Der Schyff’s class, when it was Lea’s turn to get ready, she was there! On her marks, ready and go!! Off she went, as fast as she could and she loved it! No she didn’t win, she didn’t make second. In fact she didn’t make third but she didn’t stop, she didn’t trip, she didn’t fall, and she had fun! What more can we ask!!!

Here is the ‘diploma’ to prove that she did take part in sports day 🙂

They also had a relay race, with the 4 different classes of Grade 1 and from where we were, it looked very well organised. They all knew where to be, when to start and what to pass on (a cushion, for Grade 1!!!). I quite enjoyed seeing the enthusiasm of her teacher, litterally jumping, giving an encouraging push at the departure, clapping and hugging at the end of the races. It is pretty motivating to see such keeness in your child’s teacher!

On Saturday, it was Killian’s school’s turn to have a fun morning organised: the Big Walk. Do not be deceived by the name of it, it has nothing of a big walk, not even a short walk! Not a walk at all. It was a fund raising event. Lots of games and different stalls were prepared, a tea garden and other things to eat too. The ‘main event’ for the kids were their obstacles course. Each class had half an hour turn to jump, skip, balance, crawl and run between, above and under different obstacles. Killian had a lot of fun. Boy, this boy looks good when he moves. He so loves moving and does it well!

He also got a certificate, and a card to show that he filled as many rounds as possbile 🙂

Lea and Matt could have a turn at the end, to their delight!

Now we wait for the mini-walk at Matt’s school…
